I haven’t blogged about the election or politics because #1 my laptop was comatose for a few months and #2 if it hadn’t been,somewhere in the middle of a post about Obama and why the world will end soooo much sooner,I would have “accidentally” destroyed my precious laptop. (And besides Rachel Lucas pwns and I just can’t live up to that*shrugs*)

I’ve been a “christian” my whole life,not the way Obama is a “christian” (also known as *cough*bullsh*t*cough*) but I was pretty lukewarm.
That changed this summer and I’m thrilled with that,I can’t even come close to describing everything that’s happened since then(good..lots of not so good, lots of WTF and a whole bunch more),my point however is that,my world view,my life view has changed,I always knew and believed in the rapture and the end..but then Obama popped up and GOOD GOD! lookie it’s here!

So,figuring that he is the perfect “man” to destroy ya know..everything,it’s been a bit depressing(I know I’m not alone in that and certainly not this) it’s also been scary as hell!

I love reading articles on how IRAN thinks Obama would be a great president…………..look at the dots…..IRAN…c’mon! If the fact that TERRORIST’S think that this guy would be good,even though we(the United States of America) are Evvvvviiiilllll..

Another reason I haven’t blogged about all this is the racism factor,it aint me..it’s them.
I could go on and on and on and on about the hypocrisy of this election “hey if you don’t like Obama..you a racist bastard!”,yeaaaa it’s cause he’s black(technically he’s half and half ) it couldn’t be because I detest him as a human being,nope..not because he’s a flaming socialist pfffft!
No it’s his skin. I think that is so backward because when I look at Obama(which is hard to do without throwing something at the TV or gagging) the only color I see..is YELLOW.

The fact that his supporters see a color or that they are voting for him because he’s black..aint that racist? I mean I can’t vote for McCain because he’s white without being called a bigot or a racist,(honestly I don’t care if McCain turns blue! he’ll at least have the red and white to go with him).
Blacks are so excited to have a black man in the White House,funny I always thought that acting in any way because of a persons race,was..um wrong?
Doesn’t that count as racism? Or does that only apply to white people?

I’m pretty old fashioned..and a Christian,so #1 I’m against gays..(you don’t like that..bite me) #2 I’m for our military and finishing fights..not running away with our tail’s between our legs.

My problem is simple(though it won’t come out that way)
I’m a Christian(or I try to be) and I’m against all this crap,you can call me a bigot if you want(though one day I hope the irony slaps you in the face) but I’m far from PC and no one is gonna make me bend to suit their views. And that’s a big part of this..I have to accept Gays and Lesbians..it’s against my beliefs but Good Lord I wouldn’t want to hurt their precious feelings or be a “bigot” or “close minded”,if I’m accused of these things I don’t get in to a huge discussion because these people have opened their minds soooo much that it dripped out(I just end up saying ‘Bite Me’ but that doesn’t always work in my favor^_- )

My point is..I don’t go around condeming Gays and walking up to them and saying ‘hey you’re goin to hell or ewwww’ I don’t force my beliefs on them,they wouldn’t agree with my beliefs.
But they demand that I accept them,they force their beliefs and lifestyle in my face and demand tolerance and acceptance.
Now not all of them are that way,I knew a very nice girl who batted for the same team and didn’t give a damn what I thought.And honestly I’ve never been in a situ where I had to face to face stand up against such a person and defend my beliefs but if I did..Can.Of.WhoopAss.
Not actual violence but verbal,Sure I’d get arrested for a “hate crime” for standing up for my beliefs but I would,I would demand they get out of my face and accept that I have my beliefs and they should respect them.

That is one thing,a MAJOR thing that is wrong with the world today,we can’t stand up for our beliefs anymore..its a battle to do so and most people just decide to let it go or hold their tongue,tolerance isn’t a sign of wisdom and strength..it’s weakness,it’s bending your beliefs(and whats more important than those?)to suit the beliefs of others..to fit in..to make peace.

It’s like being at a coffee shop and seeing a same sex couple making out,if it sickens you or you disapprove(and admit it..a lot of people feel that way,they don’t want to see that)and they stop and ask “you got a problem?” the majority of people will most likely say “uhh nope”.
Not me,an honest to God response would be “uhh yea actually..take it somewhere else”
A lot of people look back 50 years and see a stronger country and thats because tolerance..not in great supply back then(of course there were major problems with racism but thats a different kettle of fish) you would never see a coffee shop scene like that in 1951.A lot of things have changed for the better but not that,so few stick to their beliefs for fear of being “a bigot” and whatnot,we’ve lost a lot of backbone since then.
The War is a prime example,so few have the strength and courage to stick it out.(global warming is just a sign the worlds going to hell,bunch of crap anyway)
I’m always going to stand up for my beliefs,whether they be popular or not.And I’ll have people who will stand with me..but never for me,you won’t see a Supreme Court standing up for my beliefs,to protect what I hold sacred.One thing that may happen is Gays wanting to get married in a church and the church saying ‘HELL NO’ and then the Gays sueing the church(it will probably happen) and you know who will win? Not the Church..thats been around for-freakin-ever,no..but the poor helpless Gays..because they just want to be like everyone else(bullshit)The Court will not stand up for the Church(for sticking to their beliefs and acting on their moral judgement)nope..wont happen.It’s all one sided..where is the “open minds” for my beliefs?Why can’t I live my life the way I want and disagree with them?Nooooo I must conform…and thats the problem..we all are conforming to fit a mold so different and twisted from what this country started out as.But our country is still the best so there! I love my country..now if we could only find our backbones then we might be allright.

Though I would never ever harm a child,thats hardly the point…the point in case anyone was wondering,is that I can beat up 6 more 5 year olds than Rachel Lucas^_^ I bow to her superiority in almost every other aspect..pretty much,but I do have height and weight as an advantage,plus I’ve been in a few fights myself.

Sex and marriage with robots? It could happen
Robots soon will become more human-like in appearance, researcher says

Humans could marry robots within the century. And consummate those vows.

“My forecast is that around 2050, the state of Massachusetts will be the first jurisdiction to legalize marriages with robots,” artificial intelligence researcher David Levy at the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands told LiveScience. Levy recently completed his Ph.D. work on the subject of human-robot relationships, covering many of the privileges and practices that generally come with marriage as well as outside of it.

At first, sex with robots might be considered geeky, “but once you have a story like ‘I had sex with a robot, and it was great!’ appear someplace like Cosmo magazine, I’d expect many people to jump on the bandwagon,” Levy said.

The idea of romance between humanity and our artistic and/or mechanical creations dates back to ancient times, with the Greek myth of the sculptor Pygmalion falling in love with the ivory statue he made named Galatea, to which the goddess Venus eventually granted life.

This notion persists in modern times. Not only has science fiction explored this idea, but 40 years ago, scientists noticed that students at times became unusually attracted to ELIZA, a computer program designed to ask questions and mimic a psychotherapist.

“There’s a trend of robots becoming more human-like in appearance and coming more in contact with humans,” Levy said. “At first robots were used impersonally, in factories where they helped build automobiles, for instance. Then they were used in offices to deliver mail, or to show visitors around museums, or in homes as vacuum cleaners, such as with the Roomba. Now you have robot toys, like Sony’s Aibo robot dog, or Tickle Me Elmos, or digital pets like Tamagotchis.”

In his thesis, “Intimate Relationships with Artificial Partners,” Levy conjectures that robots will become so human-like in appearance, function and personality that many people will fall in love with them, have sex with them and even marry them.

“It may sound a little weird, but it isn’t,” Levy said. “Love and sex with robots are inevitable.”

Sex with robots in 5 years
Levy argues that psychologists have identified roughly a dozen basic reasons why people fall in love, “and almost all of them could apply to human-robot relationships. For instance, one thing that prompts people to fall in love are similarities in personality and knowledge, and all of this is programmable. Another reason people are more likely to fall in love is if they know the other person likes them, and that’s programmable too.”

In 2006, Henrik Christensen, founder of the European Robotics Research Network, predicted that people will be having sex with robots within five years, and Levy thinks that’s quite likely. There are companies that already sell realistic sex dolls, “and it’s just a matter of adding some electronics to them to add some vibration,” he said, or endowing the robots with a few audio responses. “That’s fairly primitive in terms of robotics, but the technology is already there.”

As software becomes more advanced and the relationship between humans and robots becomes more personal, marriage could result. “One hundred years ago, interracial marriage and same-sex marriages were illegal in the United States. Interracial marriage has been legal now for 50 years, and same-sex marriage is legal in some parts of the states,” Levy said. “There has been this trend in marriage where each partner gets to make their own choice of who they want to be with.”

“The question is not if this will happen, but when,” Levy said. “I am convinced the answer is much earlier than you think.”

When and where it’ll happen
Levy predicts Massachusetts will be the first jurisdiction to legalize human-robot marriage. “Massachusetts is more liberal than most other jurisdictions in the United States and has been at the forefront of same-sex marriage,” Levy said. “There’s also a lot of high-tech research there at places like MIT.”

Although roboticist Ronald Arkin at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta does not think human-robot marriages will be legal anywhere by 2050, “anything’s possible. And just because it’s not legal doesn’t mean people won’t try it,” he told LiveScience.

“Humans are very unusual creatures,” Arkin said. “If you ask me if every human will want to marry a robot, my answer is probably not. But will there be a subset of people? There are people ready right now to marry sex toys.”

The main benefit of human-robot marriage could be to make people who otherwise could not get married happier, “people who find it hard to form relationships, because they are extremely shy, or have psychological problems, or are just plain ugly or have unpleasant personalities,” Levy said. “Of course, such people who completely give up the idea of forming relationships with other people are going to be few and far between, but they will be out there.”

Ethical questions
The possibility of sex with robots could prove a mixed bag for humanity. For instance, robot sex could provide an outlet for criminal sexual urges. “If you have pedophiles and you let them use a robotic child, will that reduce the incidence of them abusing real children, or will it increase it?” Arkin asked. “I don’t think anyone has the answers for that yet — that’s where future research needs to be done.”

Keeping a robot for sex could reduce human prostitution and the problems that come with it. However, “in a marriage or other relationship, one partner could be jealous or consider it infidelity if the other used a robot,” Levy said. “But who knows, maybe some other relationships could welcome a robot. Instead of a woman saying, ‘Darling, not tonight, I have a headache,’ you could get ‘Darling, I have a headache, why not use your robot?’ “
Arkin noted that “if we allow robots to become a part of everyday life and bond with them, we’ll have to ask questions about what’s going to happen to our social fabric. How will they change humanity and civilization? I don’t have any answers, but I think it’s something we need to study. There’s a real potential for intimacy here, where humans become psychologically and emotionally attached to these devices in ways we wouldn’t to a vibrator.”

Levy is currently writing a paper on the ethical treatment of robots. When it comes to sex and love with robots, “the ethical issues on how to treat them are something we’ll have to consider very seriously, and they’re very complicated issues,” Levy said.

Levy successfully defended his thesis Oct. 11.

I love learning things,whether its from the important people in my life or something on the Discovery channel,but there’s something about talking for 6 hours straight with the person you either love or want to.
Something special about hearing their stories and about all the trouble they got into as a kid or about their first driving lesson or the first time they played with matches(c’mon thats always an interesting story huh) Hearing about what they want out of life,whether its kids or not..settling down or always on the move..normal or exciting..all that great stuff!
Whats a robot going to say about its early days? “I was made in lab 6 and….oh right I like everything you do”
And since very few people in life escape either hardship or tragedy(and some have an overabundance) how is a robot going to relate to that? When you share your pain and talk about the hard times..what the hell is it going to have to say back?(cause that lab 6 line is going to get old fast)
I hate that the people I love and the man I love have had to endure pain and tragedy in their lives but thats part of life and it connects us,and though I hate to see his heart breaking I love that I can be there for him to lean on and that when his heart breaks mine breaks for him….cant get that from a robot…and would you really want to knowing its all computer code?
And what’s its going to say to you on the worst day of your life or when you wake up from a nightmare? nothing genuine…

TEHRAN, Iran – Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad arrived in New York to protests Sunday and said in a television interview that Iran was neither building a nuclear bomb nor headed to war with the United States.

The president’s motorcade pulled up to the midtown hotel where he will be staying while he appears at a series of events including the U.N. General Assembly and a forum at Columbia University, where about 40 elected officials and civic leaders decried his visit.

Ahmadinejad’s public-relations push appears aimed at presenting his views directly to a U.S. audience amid rising strains and talk of war between the two nations.

Tensions are high between Washington and Tehran over U.S. accusations that Iran is secretly trying to develop nuclear weapons, as well as helping Shiite militias in Iraq that target U.S. troops — claims Iran denies.

“Well, you have to appreciate we don’t need a nuclear bomb. We don’t need that. What need do we have for a bomb?” Ahmadinejad said in the “60 Minutes” interview taped in Iran on Thursday. “In political relations right now, the nuclear bomb is of no use. If it was useful it would have prevented the downfall of the Soviet Union.”

‘There is no war in the offing’
He also said that: “It’s wrong to think that Iran and the U.S. are walking toward war. Who says so? Why should we go to war? There is no war in the offing.”

Before leaving Iran, Ahmadinejad said the American people have been denied “correct information,” and his visit will give them a chance to hear a different voice, the official IRNA news agency reported.

Washington has said it is addressing the Iran situation diplomatically, rather than militarily, but U.S. officials also say that all options are open. The commander of the U.S. military forces in the Middle East said he did not believe tensions will lead to war.

“This constant drum beat of conflict is what strikes me, which is not helpful and not useful,” Adm. William Fallon, head of U.S. Central Command, said in an interview with Al-Jazeera television, which made a partial transcript available Sunday.

Ahmadinejad’s scheduled address to the U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday will be his third time attending the New York meeting in three years.

But his request to lay a wreath at ground zero was denied by city officials and condemned by politicians who said a visit to the site of the 2001 terror attacks would violate sacred ground.

Police cited construction and security concerns in denying Ahmadinejad’s request. Ahmadinejad told 60 Minutes he would not press the issue but expressed disbelief that the visit would offend Americans.

After the Sept. 11 attacks, hundreds of young Iranians held a series of candlelight vigils in Tehran.

“Usually you go to these sites to pay your respects. And also to perhaps air your views about the root causes of such incidents,” Ahmadinejad told the network.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini also appeared dismayed that the request was rejected.

“What kind of damage will the U.S. face (by Ahmadinejad visiting the site)?” Hosseini said at his weekly press conference Sunday.

Columbia canceled a planned visit by the Iranian president last year, also citing security and logistical reasons.

Tough questions
University President Lee Bollinger has resisted requests to cancel Ahmadinejad’s speech this year but promised to introduce the talk himself with a series of tough questions on topics including the Iranian leader’s views on the Holocaust, his call for the destruction of the state of Israel and his government’s alleged support of terrorism.

Ahmadinejad has called the Holocaust “a myth” and called for Israel to be “wiped off the map.”

At the protests, New York state Assemblyman Dov Hikind said Ahmadinejad “should be arrested when he comes to Columbia University, not invited to speak for God’s sake.”

Ahmadinejad’s visit to New York is also being debated back home. Some in Iran think his trip is a publicity stunt that hurts Iran’s image in the world.
 
Political analyst Iraj Jamshidi said Ahmadinejad looks at the General Assembly as a publicity forum simply to surprise world leaders with his harsh rhetoric.

Military probes atheist GI’s harassment claims
Soldier alleges mistreatment by officers, peers while serving in Iraq

TOPEKA, Kan. – Military officials in Iraq are investigating allegations that an Army specialist is being harassed for being an atheist but said Saturday that they cannot find an officer the soldier has named in a federal lawsuit.

Spc. Jeremy Hall and the Military Religious Freedom Foundation filed a lawsuit against Maj. Paul Welborne and Defense Secretary Robert Gates in U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Kansas, this past week. It alleges that Welborne threatened to pursue military charges against Hall and to block his reenlistment because he was trying to hold a meeting of atheists and non-Christians in Iraq.

The suit also alleges that Gates permits a military culture in which officers are encouraged to pressure soldiers to adopt and espouse fundamentalist Christian beliefs.
On Friday, Mikey Weinstein, the foundation’s founder and president, released to The Associated Press copies of e-mails from Hall in which the soldier said he had been harassed and threatened on blogs with being killed by friendly fire for filing the lawsuit.

Lt. Col. James Hutton, a spokesman for the U.S.-led multinational force in Iraq, said in a statement from Iraq on Saturday that the Army was investigating Hall’s situation. But he added: “Several media reports list a person named Maj. Paul Welborne as having been involved in this situation. To date, we have not located any soldier by that name.”

In responding to the lawsuit, a Pentagon spokesman said the military does value and respect religious freedoms, but that accommodating religious practices should not interfere with unit cohesion, readiness, standards or discipline.

Hall, who is serving with the 97th Military Police Battalion out of Fort Riley, Kan., has been in Iraq since 2006, on his second tour.

‘I might be harmed or worse’
Hall wrote in a series of e-mails to Weinstein that he feared for his safety after being “hallchecked” — being shoved against the wall in a hallway — by fellow soldiers who objected to his lawsuit. Bloggers on the Internet have also referred to “fragging” Hall, or killing him by friendly fire.

“I hope I am not the victim of a hate crime while I sleep tonight. I do not want to die for my country this way,” wrote Hall, who said a non-commissioned officer was threatening to beat him. “I’m doing my best right now. But I am still afraid that I might be harmed or worse.”

Weinstein said Saturday that the issue was not locating Welborne, noting the incidents alleged in the lawsuit occurred in July and August and the major may have left Iraq since then. Instead, he said, the military must find the soldiers who are threatening Hall and prosecute them under military law.

“We’re talking about stuff that happened 36 hours ago. If they can’t find the people who have been harassing Jeremy, we will,” Weinstein said. “This isn’t that hard to do.

“If one hair on Hall’s head is touched, there will be hell to pay,” Weinstein said.

In the lawsuit, Hall said that his free speech and religious rights were violated a year ago when he sat down with soldiers to eat a Thanksgiving holiday dinner. When asked to join hands and pray, Hall declined, but sat as the other soldiers prayed over the food. A sergeant asked why he would not pray and Hall told him he was an atheist, meaning he does not believe in God.

The sergeant demanded that Hall move to another table and not sit with the other soldiers. Hall said he stayed and ate without speaking to the others.

Challenges to Hall’s beliefs
In July, Hall said he walked away from soldiers in his unit when a colonel wanted them to pray before they went on a mission in the city of Kirkuk.

The lawsuit names Gates as a defendant and alleges he permits a culture that sanctions activities by Christian organizations, including providing personnel and equipment.

It also says the military permits proselytizing by soldiers, tolerates anti-Semitism, placing of religious symbols on military equipment and allows the use of military e-mail accounts to send religious rhetoric.

Some postings on military-related blogs have been critical of Hall, with some people wondering how atheists can claim religious freedom if they practice no sanctioned faith.

One individual, posting under the name “Hidog,” suggested Hall put on an orange vest and carry a sign “Bong hits 4 Allah” through the streets of Iraq, “because apparently, your Bill of Rights trump your CO’s (commanding officer’s) orders.”

But others said the U.S. Constitution protects “freedom from religion,” and defended Hall, adding that they were glad he spoke up against the pressures from some Christians.

Nebraska state senator sues God

Injunction sought against Him for allegedly causing deaths, making threats

LINCOLN, Neb. – The defendant in a state senator’s lawsuit is accused of causing untold death and horror and threatening to cause more still. He can be sued in Douglas County, the legislator claims, because He’s everywhere.

State Sen. Ernie Chambers sued God last week. Angered by another lawsuit he considers frivolous, Chambers says he’s trying to make the point that anybody can file a lawsuit against anybody.

Chambers says in his lawsuit that God has made terrorist threats against the senator and his constituents, inspired fear and caused “widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth’s inhabitants.”
The Omaha senator, who skips morning prayers during the legislative session and often criticizes Christians, also says God has caused “fearsome floods … horrendous hurricanes, terrifying tornadoes.”

He’s seeking a permanent injunction against the Almighty.

Suit in protest
Chambers said the lawsuit was triggered by a federal suit filed against a judge who recently barred words such as “rape” and “victim” from a sexual assault trial.

The accuser in the criminal case, Tory Bowen, sued Lancaster District Judge Jeffre Cheuvront, claiming that he violated her free speech rights.

Chambers said Bowen’s lawsuit is inappropriate because the Nebraska Supreme Court has already considered the case and federal courts follow the decisions of state supreme courts on state matters.
“This lawsuit having been filed and being of such questionable merit creates a circumstance where my lawsuit is appropriately filed,” Chambers said. “People might call it frivolous but if they read it they’ll see there are very serious issues I have raised.”

U.S. District Judge Richard Kopf, in an order last week, expressed doubts about whether Bowen’s lawsuit “has any legal basis whatsoever” and said sanctions may be imposed against Bowen and her attorneys if they fail to show cause for the lawsuit.

The Associated Press usually does not identify accusers in sex-assault cases, but Bowen has allowed her name to be used publicly because of the issue over the judge’s language restrictions.

Cheuvront declared a mistrial in the sexual assault trial in July, saying pretrial publicity made it impossible to gather enough impartial jurors

Madonna toasted the Jewish new year with Israeli President Shimon Peres and declared herself an “ambassador for Judaism,” local newspapers reported Sunday.

The singer, who is not Jewish, arrived in Israel Wednesday on the eve of Jewish new year to attend a conference on Kabbalah or Jewish mysticism.

Madonna met Peres at his official Jerusalem residence on Saturday evening and the two exchanged gifts, with Madonna receiving a lavishly bound copy of the Jewish Bible.

She gave Peres a volume of “The Book of Splendor,” the guiding text of Kabbalah, inscribed “To Shimon Peres, the man I admire and love, Madonna,” the Yediot Ahronot daily reported.

A Peres aide confirmed the meeting but had no details.

“You don’t know how popular the Book of Splendor is among Hollywood actors,” Yediot quoted Madonna as telling Peres. “Everyone I meet talks to me only about that. I am an ambassador for Judaism.”

Madonna, who was raised a Roman Catholic, has taken the Hebrew name Esther, and has been seen wearing a red thread on her wrist in a Jewish tradition to ward off the evil eye.

But her interest in Kabbalah in recent years has been criticized by Orthodox Jews, who say it is an abomination.

Other celebrities who flew in for the Kabbalah conference included movie star Demi Moore and her husband, actor Ashton Kutcher, Rosie O’Donnell and fashion designer Donna Karan. Madonna came with her film director husband Guy Ritchie.

The Haaretz daily quoted Kutcher as telling a group of Israeli businessmen and entertainers on Saturday that Kabbalah had answered fundamental questions in his life and made him a better actor.

Rabbis who specialize in Kabbalah have criticized the interest by non-Jewish celebrities in the subject.

Jewish tradition holds that Kabbalah is so powerful and complicated that only bona fide students may begin to approach it and then only after age 40.

Among the elements of Kabbalah are mystical revelations drawn from holy books by recombination of letters and other signs.

Rabbis were particularly incensed by Madonna’s song, “Isaac,” about the revered 16th-century Kabbalist rabbi Yitzhak Luria, which featured on her 2005 album, “Confessions on a Dance Floor.”

During her visit, Madonna plans to visit sites sacred to Kabbalists. It was not known how long she intends to stay.

Madonna paid her first visit to Israel three years ago on another Kabbalah-centered trip.

“I can’t believe that I’m celebrating the new year with you in Israel,” Maariv newspaper quoted her as telling Peres on Saturday. “It’s a dream come true.”
